Overwhelmed Moms
As a therapist well-versed in self-care, emotion management, and seeking support, I thought I knew what to expect. However, transitioning to motherhood taught me that professional knowledge doesn't shield you from the raw human experiences. Motherhood, while deeply rewarding, comes with its share of hurdles. I still vividly recall being given a depression screening questionnaire by my OBGYN in my first week as a mother. Apparently, I "passed," because no further action was taken—supposedly a sign that I was doing just fine (insert sarcastic tone here). Statistics highlight the mental health challenges associated with motherhood: 35% of women experience high anxiety during pregnancy, 17% after childbirth, and 20% during the first six weeks postpartum. These figures don't even begin to address the profound adjustments and lifestyle changes new mothers face. While I can't solve all these challenges, I can equip you with self-care strategies to not only cope with motherhood but to thrive in it, enhancing your ability to care for your child.
